Triangle Waist Factory Fire 100 Year Anniversary

This tragic event is recognized this year for its one hundredth anniversary.

So why is this something to celebrate?

The Triangle Waist Factory tragic fire was surrounded by many events from labor strikes involving working conditions to immigrant worker issues. The most notable is that it ultimately resulted in the formation of the Life Safety Code (NFPA 101). We have learned important lessons from tragedies involving massive deaths. In this case, 146 garment workers died either by jumping to their death from the 10-story building, falling in the elevator car or asphyxiation. The gruesome deaths are an important reminder of the important role of Architects, Engineers, Contractors and business owners to provide safety for the public.

I recommend that you view the special, Triangle Remembering the Fire (2011) premiered on HBO on March 21, four days short of the 100th anniversary; or write up in NFPA.
