DWG provides mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection design for the new Roper Hospital Medical Campus in North Charleston. This transformative $1 billion development will span 27 acres and encompass approximately 860,000 square feet of state-of-the-art healthcare facilities, making it one of the largest and most advanced healthcare construction projects on the East Coast. The centerpiece of the campus is a 12-story, 341-bed full-service acute care hospital, which will include a 24-hour emergency department, advanced operating rooms, and resilient infrastructure designed to withstand floods, hurricanes, and earthquakes. An adjacent 80,000-square-foot medical office building will offer outpatient and specialty care, supported by a central utility plant and a parking facility with over 2,200 spaces. The campus is strategically located adjacent to I-26 and is accessible by bus and rail, which helps improve access to care for the region. It is part of Roper St. Francis Healthcare’s long-term vision to modernize facilities, expand services, and bring care closer to where patients live and work. The design reflects a commitment to healing, innovation, and community, featuring sustainable infrastructure and flexible spaces that accommodate future medical advancements.
