DWG provided engineering design services for a significant upgrade to the Sullivan’s Island Fire Department, including the complete renovation of a three-story, 14,200-square-foot fire station and the addition of a new 10,000-square-foot joint-use barn. The fire station was transformed both inside and out to support first responders better, while the new barn provides space for vehicle maintenance, equipment storage, and office use. The design prioritized resilience, energy efficiency, and ease of maintenance in a coastal environment. Systems were selected to improve air quality, provide reliable heating and cooling, and support 24/7 operations. Key features included vehicle exhaust systems, infrared heating in the bays, backup power from a 300-kW generator, and modern lighting controls—all designed to ensure the facility runs smoothly during emergencies. Behind the scenes, DWG’s integrated mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems ensure the buildings are equipped to perform under pressure. The result is a durable, modern campus built to serve the department and community for years to come.
